Visit 84 Charing Cross Road

Visit 84 Charing Cross Road and the former home(s) of Helene Hanff. Both now have plaques commemorating their being the sites from the book and film, where Frank and Helene corresponded.

Part of the fun of a memoir is that you have the opportunity to visit some of the spots mentioned in the book.

A fan of the book and film, 84 Charing Cross Road kindly made this video so we could see how the location of the Marks and Co bookshop location looks today. There is some distortion to the audio but it clears up.

Here's a fun tour of the locations of Helene Hanff's apartments in New York.

Read a review of Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins in 84 Charing Cross Road.

Apple of My Eye by Helene Hanff
Hanff, a New Yorker herself, visits many of New York City's most notable tourist destinations such as the Statue of Liberty and Wall Street. The book is of a bygone era; the author died in 1997. But many of the sites remain and all will be seen through her eyes which will be fun and informative.

"As make-believe tourists, off she and Patsy travel to describe the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grant's Tomb, Fraunces Tavern, some of New York's very special small museums, Orchard Street, a tour of Harlem, and much more. Hanff weaves in historical events and tidbits on some of New York's most notorious personalities."
